Model yourself in paper
All you need is couple of photographs of yourself and Pepacura - am I right? Who wants to give it a try and give a how-to lesson for the rest of us? ;-)

The ones that I have seen the builders used a software called Facegen. As far as I know, the program can generate a generic head, you then can modify the shape using photos as reference and the software allows you to apply those photos to the model as textures.
