Project 971 K-335 Akula III, GPM 10'2014, 1:200

Hallo,
today I want to continue with the presentation of my collection of modern submarines.
Mr. Fuczek, who is also responsible for the USS Seawolf and USS Dallas, is the designer of the model - therefor the construction of this sub is quite similar to the ones already mentioned.
- The kit comes along in A4 booklet format.
- The print and paperquality is fairly good.
- Three pages of sketches will support us to assemble the structures main body and tower.
- One page with formers, and
- Six pages with the elements.
Some selected slides to give a first impression of the kit are appended.

Klaus

Should be good

Do you start in the middle and work outwards or from one end?

Hallo Tim, NH78

there are so many ways you can start - I usually start with the most critical sections, e.g. the bow and stern, from both ends towards the middle. When my F15C is handed over to the armed forces I will start with the sub asap.

Hi Klaus,

everything rounded, it looks like an underwater-rocket.
I surely will watch this build.

Best Regards
Dieter

Hallo,

the sub is now in service - scaled down to 1:250 it was a pleasure to build.
No. 3 of my little fleet of silent hunters ...

Side question - does the kit include internal "skeleton", to support the whole outer structure, or the model (or whole compartments of it) are hollow?

Hallo George

yes - there are formers - one per section. I did not follow the way the designer layouted the inner cut-out of the former - I have my own technique I have applied to earlier builds of modern subs (refer to Dallas or Seawolf). In addition I reenforced the individual section by longitudinal supports of cardboard (1 mm thickness) - unfortunately I took no slides to depict this technique (nobody is really interested in). For the tower no formers are supplied - so You have to make them on your own - good luck.
Best regards Klaus
