Corvair Monza GT
Just got this kit of a rare car, the 1962 Chevy Corvair Monza GT. This was a mid-engine prototype using a Corvair engine. The front of the car is similar to later Corvettes, and the rear inspired the 1965-1969 Corvair. The rear also looks to have heavily inspired Bill Thomas' Super Cheetah.
I bought this model on ebay from Ondrej Hejl who I believe constructed the model. The designer is Attila Csakvari. Ondrej forgive me if I am incorrect. The kit arrived within a week and the shipping was reasonable as it came from the Czech Republic. The kit consists of two identical models, one metalized, and the other printed on plain matte. This allows you to practice building the normally printed version before attempting the metalized version. Instructions are graphic images only. The scale is 1/24. Ondrej also included a small building model that he designed as a freebie. It looks to build nicely based on photos of the completed model. Not only am I happy to have a model of such a cool car, but it may also serve to help me design the Super Cheetah. Pictures are from my phone so they are not very clear. |

Will be looking forward to following this. Always like the car. The Super Cheetah? Now that will be interesting. Would make a nice companion piece for my Cox Cheetah if I ever get around to doing it.

Unsafe at any speed...
Corvairs are such unique vehicles, in spite of what Ralph Nader says!
Here is a PIX of my 1962 Corvair taken a few years ago with my 1950's Kodak Vigilant camera. Looks like it could have been taken back in the day. I've seen this model on ebay and I look forward to your build. russ..

At 4:15 a.m. Turner Classic Movies channel ran the short "The Corvair in Action", a promo film from Chevy in 1960. OMG it was funny, typical promo lots of driving around and putting stuff in the trunk, but they did show how well it drives "off road"! Showed it driving up a stream in about a foot of water "and it drove for over 20 miles without a hitch for the air cooled engine" LOL ....they rerun these thing so do a search and try to catch it....time have changed!........Rich

I'll have to check that out. I remember a (1970's?) VW commercial where they drove a Beetle into a pond to show that it floats.
