Halinski P38-G 3-4/2008 Kartonowy Arsenal

So I managed to get 2 new models for Father's Day - and not surprisingly I picked up the 2 new P38 models out there (with 3 canopies - probably should have gotten 4 as I now own 3 printed versions and will probably buy the Gremir version once I'm solvent again). As the WAK P38H has been covered in a couple threads (here and here) - I'm just doing a review of the Halinski.

The Halinski comes in their standard paper size. It has front and back cover of airplane history and build instructions in Polish (I have emailed and requested an English translation - purchased the models from .: WWW.MODEL-HOBBY.PL :. Internetowy Sklep Modelarski - Modele Kartonowe, Modele plastikowe, Akcesoria modelarskie), 12 pages of the computer-generated build diagrams, 4 pages of thin paper formers / templates and 8 pages of parts. As they have been doing with the newer kits, 4 of those pages have double-sided printing for various parts.
The model is a typical Halinski - exquisite printing and enough over-detailing to allow nights of building the model in your head. The cockpit is of course minutely detailed - and the extended air brakes make up a bunch of detail bits, and account for a lot of the double printing. The only thing it probably is missing is the ability to build with the gun access doors open in the nose - which is covered in the WAK / Gremir kit. Oh, and in their pursuit of perfection, you can see the 'correction' pieces in the front of the book where they had extra graphics on the engine pods in the original printing.
Having the 2 kits in front of me naturally leads one to do a comparison. General aesthetics, I like the plane picked by Halinski better. There are so many 'pretty' colors of the P38, and the 'rust brown' color picked by WAK has to be one of the worst. Instruction diagrams - I think Halinski has more and better diagrams, but the WAK kit doesn't seem to be lacking. Detail wise, I don't think the WAK pales in detail by any stretch - even excelling in the gun compartment up front. From what I can see and the build threads I've seen around - they both look like they will build up to be gorgeous models - I think I'll put the Halinski higher on the build list just because I like the colors better.

Wonderful gifts, Dan!

I look forward to seeing you build both of these - - - and don't you and I both have some GreMir P-61s deep in the pile?

You know Don, once I finish up this and the Kikka, that P61 is next on the list. Wouldn't a group Black Widow build be a great addition to the forum!
