Orlik 1/33 XP-61E/F-15 Reporter

This was part of an order I place in October that only arrived this week!! The package was well-sealed against the weather but was not very rigid and there was a marked fold across it although this does not appear to have marked any parts.

The plans look pretty straight forward and the only area where I anticipate a little pain so far is at the rear of the fuselage where there are no formers for support - I'm think I might make this area from foam and shape the skin over it in order to get a clean seam top and bottom.

The fuselage skin is printed in a silvery ink that provides a nice effect (Orlik also has a metallic paper version available) - I don't think it will scan and print well so I will have to use the actual parts and just make sure I get it right the first time (there is a first time for everything!!). I was a little disappointed that the gunbay interior for the XP-61E is not provided but the cockpit and gear bays appear to be nicely represented.

Alternate fuselage parts and markings are provided to enable either the XP-61E long-range fighter of the F-15 Reporter versions to be assembled.

I was inspired to buy this model by Bomarc's PBJ build but am actually quite glad now that this model doesn't have quite near the same degree of pain, I mean, detail...

Got it from Orlik ORLIK - don't think the slow post was their problem, just one of those things...

Cheers but it won't be for a while - have three current builds (udarnyj, Ilya Muromets, and BV P.170) to pull finger on but waiting for the weather to close in again to revitalise modelling efforts...

Nice looking kit, may have to get one eventually.

I pre-scanned all the parts before I started my Orlik model. Even though I knew the any scan/prints I made would never equate to the original printed parts, having the scans was extremely useful for replacement fuselage formers, patterns for the canopy, things like that.

Thanks for the "first look" of this kit......

I'd love to see this one built. Many thanks for showing us what it looks like and for giving a well-informed assessment.
