That's impressive. I would never be able to build one without instructions.

Wonderful.
Is there any chance you could be persuaded to design a 6 inch howitzer as your next project? I have seen a reference that the Mk1 gun carrier / 6 inch howitzer system was actually used once during a night shoot at the German front lines. This model will have to be at least a double build, once as a supply tank and once as gun carrier, and then perhaps once again as a salvage tank. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mEnM3Gkyvo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF4oEpv9JgM |

Gun Carrier
I am indeed considering the 6-inch howitzer as a companion piece to the gun carrier. I have been checking the existing drawings for it and am working on getting them to scale and correct proportions. Don't expect it anytime soon, though. I still have a bit to do on the vehicle. The 60pdr is another candidate.

This my beta-build of my latest project - edges are not colored and I left off most of the applique parts. Scale is 1/48. 11 pages of parts. I'll start the instructions soon.

The first model is a male - #9602 with the US Army 301st Bn. There were 700 Mark V* ordered 200 female and 500 males. The need for composites with one gun was much diminished with the V*s since the majority were males. I can't recall seeing an image of a composite V*.

Those main gun placements on the early tanks is interesting. So, when did someone get the idea of placing a main gun with a 360° rotating turret on top of the vehicle?

Again an excellent design Wayne.
Pretty sure there weren't any hermaphrodite MkV*, but this has saved the need for 2 prototype models. In service the MkV* suffered a slightly lower atrittion rate than the MkV, probable because it added two more short comings. It was slower with the same engine and less maneuverable due to the increased track-length/spacing ratio once it was on soft ground. Presumable it couldn't get to where the action was as often. The original wooden mock-up for Little Willie had a fully revolving turret atop but it was never fitted in practice. The French FT 17 was the first production tank with that feature. |
