Wayne McCullough's projects

WWI Gun Carrier MkI

Some of the earlier threads got me looking at the Gun Carrier again. The drawings I found on the 'net didn't seem to fit the overall dimensions posted elsewhere. I found a couple of good side views, scaled them to the dimensions and made some drawings. Then the simple solid forms from the drawings. The attached photos show the process and the resulting 3D model.

I could use some help with the interior, which does not show up on any of the vintage photos I have found so far.

A formidable project, Wayne.

I do not think that the Military History Institute archives here have anything on this vehicle, but when time permits, I will do a catalog search.

Wow! - seriously impressive.

Wayne please post your project on the Landships forum - should be able to shake out some decent images from the denizens over there.

I'll put a call out with the local WW1 enthusiasts in AMMS Brisbane - I'm fairly sure one of them has built a plastic gun carrier.

Regards,

Charlie

Help is greatly appreciated

Don and Charlie,

I will appreciate any help you can provide. I will post on LandshipsII also.
Since the recent builds of my other models have been up-scaled to 1:50, I am starting this in 1:48 (old-fashioned model aircraft scale).

Wayne - I am delighted to hear that you are working this in 1/48. I'd love to build your tank models in that scale, especially the Mk.VIII, which I really want to build in U.S. Army colors.

Charlie - You have found some good materials in the MHI Archives in the past. If you are able to find anything on this vehicle, I will go over and copy the relevant images. I will also do my own search, but have to finish grades and that paper I give at the conference next Friday.

Don

update 23 May 14

Updated views of the 3D model are attached. I still need help with the interior - drawings or photos. I will use photos of the available kits if we find nothing better.

Wayne,

I will be following this thread with great interest. I always thought this was an interesting subject vehicle. This is indeed good news that you are taking this on. I'm with Don, 1/48th scale will be a real treat.

First test build

The first test build is going fairly well. Not a lot of detail yet, as I am trying to get the major parts to fit correctly before I start worrying about the small stuff. I hope to have the rear superstructure done tomorrow, but we'll see.

Going well, very well, Wayne.
Might I suggest that whilst the Juliot Pilot model may not be proportionally accurate his interior details are reasonable and probably represent the best guess that is curently available. They may even be near the actual.
