Curtiss P-6E Hawk - WAK

I just finished my first Biplane. I'm pretty happy with the finished model even though it did seem a lot of work. There were a few problems with this kit, not least being a really bad print error. All parts that are supposed to be black are, for some reason, a really icky maroon colour so I elected to repaint these by hand. These included the forward fuselage, landing gear and wheel "boots".

Anyway, on with the pics....

Very nice to see a really well executed biplane! I admire the rigging in particular, and could do with a few words on your method, in particular how you managed those perfectly parallell doubled flying wires. - L.

Thanks guys.

Leif, for the rigging I used EZLine which is just perfect for the job. I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned here on the forum before but I got it from Bobe's Hobby House. I tried to make life as easy for myself as I could by attaching one end of rigging lines during building where possible. It cuts down on the amount of fighting with the fully built kit later.

As for keeping the lines parallel, I was lucky with this kit because the attachment points on the wings are clearly marked. Some of the attachment points on the fuselage weren't so obvious so I referenced photos for those. There was no great secret to keeping them parallel. After fixing the first line, I just lined the second one up by eye. The elasticity of EZLine really helps with this because almost no tension is needed to make it LOOK taught so you have plenty of flexibility to work with.
