Two Old Theatres
The main subject is one of the three theatre interiors published as Comedie-Francaise by L'Instant Durable. I really enjoyed working on this one. It's the usual high standard that one would expect from this company, and I think Ann-Marie Piaulet's artwork is something special.
The soon-to-be-a-ruin older example (also from L'Instant Durable) is supplied in the form of a standard postcard. It was a lot easier to make.

Looks real good. That is an inventive way they use to give depth to the display.

Philip,
Yes very well done. I agree with SEC that is a really neat way to add "depth". Could you please display one picture with a coin or something so we can reference the size.

Quote:
Ingmar Bergman's 1975 film of Mozart's Magic Flute shows how things worked in theatres circa 1791. This style of scenery (wing and drop) could be very effective.

Theatres
Thanks for sharing the pictures of these lovely little theatres Phillip. Your models are always assembled with such expertise!
I found "Theatre a l'Italienne" when I was in Paris a few years ago but I have never had the courage to try to assemble it. Now I'm on a quest to find a copy of this one. |

Magic Flute
Thanks suggesting the Magic Flute Lighter. I found a few clips from the movie and it looks like it presents some wonderful inspiration for toy theatre fans.

Thanks for showing us these beautiful models, Phillip, and thanks, Christian for the mention of Bergman's The Magic Flute, one of the very few Bergman films that I have never seen, although I vividly remember the scene from the Magic Flute of Tamino outside the Temple of Wisdom that is performed as a puppet show in a miniature paper theater in The Hour of the Wolf.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I just tried to put my hat on and found it was suddenly too small.
MichaelS: The model is in 1:00 scale and the dimensions are roughly 15x19x17(h) cm. Sharonpaints: You can get the model direct from the publishers: 3D Models collection - Maquettes Look under Theatres, Cribs and Dolls. There's also a nice diorama of Mozart at Versailles under History and Arts. I'll be sending you a rambling story in the form of a PM.
