Tibidabo's Aeroplane
Tibidabo amusement park is situated atop the 542m high Mount Tibidabo in the Barcelona District. If you don't have your own transport you can reach it from the city centre by first catching the Blue Tram (see previous post) and then the funicular railway, which takes you to the park entrance.
One of the rides inside the park is the subject of this model, the Avio del Tibidabo. It is supposed to be a replica of the machine that was used for the first commercial return trip between Barcelona and Madrid, although it has been remodelled three times since it was built in 1928. It's raised and lowered by a gantry, but forward motion is provided by the airscrew. It has room for only ten passengers. Daft fact: it has a lavatory on board. The park management claim that it is the world's first flight simulator. Can this be true? You can take a virtual ride here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV5Tu26pymQ Kit issued by La Ciutat de Paper in 1984.

That's sort of cool, especially considering the American attitude that you have to update every few years to faster and louder.
