Segovia's Royal Palace
I haven't posted anything to the gallery for a while and here is part of the reason why.
The Alcazar de Segovia stands atop a rocky prominence to the west of the town some ninety metres above street level. It was first documented in 1112 when it was probably just a simple tower with a surrounding wall and fosse. How things have changed! By the fourteenth century it had become developed enough to be the customary residence of the Kings of Castille. In the seventeenth century it became what was essentially a prison for aristocratic criminals. Whilst acting as a military academy in 1862, it suffered a fire which lasted three days and it was abandoned. The ruins were taken away, but the Segovian Council were able to conficate them and bring them back to Segovia. Restoration work began in 1882. You can take a virtual walk around the present building here: https://www.alcazardesegovia.com/wp-...vr/VR2019.html The model is in 1:200 scale and measures 82 x 37 x 27 cm. with 447 pieces, so it's quite a big one. The kit was published by Arcatura, Madrid, in 1990 (ISBN: 84-87499-01-5). It took a long time to build, and I've lost all interest in dormer windows. And I'm sorry for the fallen-over pictures. I've no idea as to why it happened.

My goodness that is beautiful. I hate to think how many hours you may have put into it.
Excellent work once again.

Philip,
I made that one years ago, so I can appreciate the amount of blood, sweat and pigsfeet it cost ;-) Don't worry about the fallen pictures - it's because you turned your camera sideways.... If you click on the picture it opens in a new tab.... the right way round - I have no idea why. Cheers Mike |

I see that Canon have just released their own version of this fabulous building. It seems to be about a third of the size of this one but is pretty well detailed nonetheless, and it appears that there are few, if any, dormers.
