Giants!
All over Spain, people love to make giant figures and bring them out on festival days for an airing. The giants can resemble lots of things; historical figures, mythical beasts, current celebrities, and so on.
Anyway, these two come from Barcelona. As far as I can make out they are named Jaume I and Violant and they represent a Catalonian king and queen from the twelfth century. They were built from a kit by La Ciutat De Paper first issued in 1984. They stand 27 cm. tall and are to 1:15 scale. So that would make the originals, um, hang on a minute, erm, let me see now... stand at about 4m. Here's a video of some of their friends enjoying a day in the open air: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1iZnST0xUg To see some of the pictures the right way up, just click on the thumbnail and then again on the expanded image. The king and queen will oblige by doing a quarter-somersault.
