Red Dragonfly

Not sure if this is a model at all. It consists of only one piece and there is no glue involved. A sort of origami crossbreed, perhaps. Wingspan is 12 cm. It comes from Canon Creative Park:

It is a model and it is kirigami.
Nomenclature gets into the way. I visited the site you just posted and the other insects look also very nice.
Paper folding really help modeling insects (literally in-sections).
I used to do similar things with metal foil.

I don't see it now, but there was a kirigami site that had insects and dragons. Very intriguing.

I have yet to build any, but at another site, folks repainted some of the dragons and they built up very nice.

What thickness of paper did you use?

Doug: Great minds think alike.

wireandpaper: Thanks for the info. I can put kirigamist on my CV now!

V_K: I used 160 gsm paper for this one bcause that's all I've got, and I've got lots of it. It seemed to be right though as you do need a bit of strength in the legs in order to support the body
