Due to the geography of Genoa, there are different funiculars, racks, and lifts belonging to the public transport.

The one in your diorama remembers me the S. Anna's funicular; until the 1978 it had water traction, the last one in Italy, after that it was converted to electric traction. I remember the downstream tank emptying and the upstream tank filling when the two cars reached their station.

I remember riding a funicular like that somewhere in the UK many years ago, where the cars were powered by the weight of the water they contained. Good fun it was. And more climate friendly too!
