Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona

The architect for La Seu del Col-Legi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya was a chap called Xavier Busquets who won the competion for the design of the college. Building began in 1958 and more or less finished by 1962. It was built in the centre of the historical part of town without any regard for blending in with it's enviroment. Tell me about it. The friezes, homages to Picasso, were sandblasted by Carl Nesjar in 1960.

The kit was published by La Ciutat de Paper, Barcelona, 1984, and is to a scale of 1:160, giving a base measurement of 21 x 20 cm approx. I haven't made a kit from this publisher yet that I didn't enjoy, not that they don't have problems, and this one was no exeption and easier than most of their output. To my mind Spanish designers seem to have a flair for this sort of thing. You can't see it too well, but there is a mezzanine floor hanging from the roof of the main concourse.

Anyway, the college is now taking student applications for the 2022-23 season, so if you fancy signing up you can do it here: IAAC - Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia

Thanks again Philip! Very nice model and what an incentive for me to spend a wonderfull afternoon in the depths of internet browsing through numerous architectural models. That publisher had some very nice traditional models too.
