Mixed race coalition...
I can reveal that there is a coalition of mixed races that I really like in the back story. One thing that pops to mind about this that would be cool is that different races might participate in different phases of the battle giving a richer backstory possibility without really needing to work up specific race cards for them.
What do you think of combining some of the non human races here into this kind of coalition? Dont want to give away more til the writer has a bit more time with the backstory. Just thought this might help get creative juices flowing Chris |

Would that be along the story of the galaxy or at this moment of the story? I think that coalitions is cool in a Starwars type of universe. Or War of Elevation type. But this is a game. Antagonists should use different hardware. Be different. That is what I think people like. It's like playing an air game in ww2 and everybody has a spitfire. But one of the players has crosses in its plane. I don't know.

I guess I'll stop putting things until I read some of the backstory. I'll wait for it.

hmmm I see what you are saying.... maintain a similar style of ships on a side etcm similar armaments maybe etc etc
I like both ways. Nothing is set in stone as of this point for anything! gotta take these first steps mighty carefully. Chris |

What I DO like about it is that you can make more raceswithout trying to game balance them. Of course these races could also be future expansions....
damn - decisions decisions.... |

From simple to complex, Chris. Always.
The backstory can have coalitions, but the game must always start from a small point. If you see games that have expansions, all of them start with a basic box with two armies or basic rules or less players. Then they add up. Examples: All the starting boxes of GW games. Two small armies of two races. Then expansions. SL (not an easy game, but for the example it works.) Germans vs. Russians and then it add up with expansions. Even Settlers of Catan. Basic game for 4 players. Then 5-6 players expansion, then 4-players seafearers, then 5-6 players expansion, etc. Add up. What I'm saying is. Backstory of the universe? Okay. Describing a lot of races? Okay. Coalition? I don't know. 2 races basic game with promise of more? That would be my choice. |

ok - I chatted with the background writer and he is modifying the backstory to take out the coalition. I was gonna start with 4-6 races but starting with two is good as well. I want to include layers for more than that though at the outset so we are a bit prepared for expansions.
