I'd say at the moment everything goes. What doesn't get picked for the base set could get used in expansions later on. If I read Cris' original idea correctly, there could be uncountable expansions, so this entire project will never cease to evolve. Story writers could be inspired by models they see here, models be inspired by stories, etc. My head reels just thinking about it! :D

Yes, of course units for each race should have a common look and feel but anyone can design any kind of ship for consideration then that ship look and feel can be translated to the other units.

Yea, that's exactly what I had in mind too. [If the designs are not done by one person then the people who collaborate would need to know exactly what the original author's design philosophy is...

It sounds like we need to come up with a "bible" or template for describing a race/species, so that others who want to design ships, vehicles, or individuals for that race/species can maintain continuity and consistency.

Thats a very good idea.... who wants to make a race template? It should incloude ship types and names along with it, including two special ship types as each race will have two unique units.
