i seem to remeber in the book"the old dog" the megafortress was a B-52 that was modified with a V tail and it also had a modified nose off a B-1 lancer.. and was the only strike aircraft we had left to knock out the soviet bases that crippled our early warning ..and ICBM bases.. she was also stealthy wasnt she?

Close...that's a late model EB-52 with the C-5's engines, there should be two tip tanks on each wing and an enclosed weapons bay in place of the wing pylons...all of which were still very stealthy designs (somehow!)...the descriptions vary as to whether the new nose was a droop snoot like Concorde and Valkyrie or just a variation on the B-1 theme...the who thing was a deep overall black and the strength of the fibresteel skin is such that the outriggers stand proud of the ground all the time...
