Hi Gary!
Firstly thanks so much for putting this here free to download. Models like yours helped me enormously in the pandemic and other life challenges and made me very happy.
I am confused about the wing spar. I can see there’s a box section for the inner and outer spar. But there is also a 2-part ‘flat’ section which runs the length of the 2 box sections. I am struggling to know where it goes.
At first I thought on top would be logical to help prevent sagging, but realised the ribs aren’t as tall as the box and flat combined, so then thought actually it would strengthen the box section better if the flat was placed on the front or rear faces of the box.
Please can you advise?
Hope you can help!
Kind regards,
Alan Newman

Here’s some pics of progress so far. I regret not taking more from the start! As you can see from the wing spar parts on the cutting board, the flat is at the top.

I loved building this great kit from Mr. Pilsworth! I think the flat pieces without tabs close off the wing support box structure, and the ribs (parts 16b~d) are installed on the marked sides of the wing spar (the sides that have the partial fuselage cross-section outlines). Here’s an original post from Gary from a few years ago showing how the supports are installed, hope this helps. Great build, really excited to see it completed!

Hi N96HBK,
Thanks a lot for your response.
I spent a good while trying different possible fits. From tye shape of the flat piece the only reasonable conclusion I could reach was they should be laid along the top of the box girder wing spar.
See pics. Nowhere else did it fit so snugly.
I will also reinforce the join at the wing spar root.
Looking forward to tackling the wings tomorrow. 😬

You're doing a great job. The fuselage is great. Coming together very nicely.

Hi Gary,
Thanks! Appreciate your comment! I am experimenting to see just how I get on using 80gram paper.

Hello all,

After looking at the strip for the wing spar not sure where it’s really supposed to be, it seems to fit best on top of the box girder which makes the wing spar. Looked at every imaginable place! Seems to make sense to add it to the top of the spar which is in tension as the wing will tend to sag.

Pic 1 above is the whole spar with the strip on top.
Pic 2 + 3 are the front and rear of the join between left and right parts of the spar conveniently showing the outline of the fuselage.
Pic 4 are the next parts cut ready for assembly
Pic 5 is the main gear doors and the ‘airbrakes’ fitted to the end of the fuselage.

All parts were 80gm paper but the gear door inner and outer glued to thin card and laid flat to dry. That meant having to shape them after the glue was dry so you might see creases on the inside of the gear bay door.
For the airbrakes I formed the 80gm inner and outer parts separately first and then glued them. Whilst the glue dried I formed them again to get the correct shape which worked really well.

Regards,
Alan
