Orion III Pan Am Space Clipper from 2001 - A Space Odyssey

Wow, Gary!

I'm all for it! I hadn't seen this thread until now...

The "Orion III Pan Am Space Clipper" is one of my favourites of all time. If you could improve the surface texture, and perhaps add a little detailing around the aft engine to this alreday amazing model, that would be absolutely wonderful!

Keep up the good designing work!

All the best,
Bengt in Stockholm

damn, I never got around to building the first one.
Now I have to replace it!

...so what was wrong with the first one?

...
okay, I just took a look at it...and theres absolutely nothing wrong with it!

Its a fairly basic model design, so it really doesn't require any more than it is.
Some of us don't want Uhu complicated design all the time.

But, if you do plan on updating it, I would suggest you look at a more complicated
version. Maybe bigger scale ...which gives you a little more room for detailing.
But other than surface details, what else does this ship have?
Cockpit? nah
Engine(s)?...all hidden.
Floating Pen?

oooh, I know...about a same scale docking port? as a display/diorama piece

Do we know anything about how it was launched? (imaginary)
Maybe invent some never seen Landing Gear?

It was a long time ago that I read the book so I can't remember if it mentioned the launch but as it was described as a space plane this seems OK.

If it's your 1st ever design, this was one of my 1st ever built paper model.
I was ever fascinated by the the film, and the Orion was one of the space ships that did to dream a generation. So it isn't odd that when i found your model, I immediately built it .

About launching the Orion: there is in the world of space simulation, an ipothesys how to launch it.
Here there is some picture and a video

depicting the piggyback solution that resembles to the Junkers RT-8 german shutlle of the early 60s.

May be could You take inspiration for a booster model?

I can't wait the release of the new enhanched version: my old model needs to be rebuilt.

Best, Nando
