The Piper Comanche is the only plane I have flown. Was flying with my advisor in college to a company in another state and 20 minutes into the flight he said okay, I've had a heart attack, so it's all on you until we hit the Oklahoma border. But he said I did pretty well for the hour I flew it (with considerable input from the jerk)

Is it true that it was not exactly the easiest plane to fly? I recall that several pilots here used to say that about this most beautiful plane. But they liked it because it was very fast and reliable. Max Conrad, the famous record breaking pilot flew the Comanche to several distant world records.

They are like other high-performance airplanes. If you weren't proficient it was easy to get in over your head if things went south. Many were well equipped for instrument flight, which requires additional skills. They can cover a lot of ground in a short time, though, compared to lesser planes.

Agreed. High performance aircraft are always difficult to fly. And low performance planes like a Piper Super Cub is extremely easy to fly!! Such is life!! The Ryan Navion was also critical and extremely efficient. And when Piper converted the Comanche to a Twin Comanche, they had to install one propeller turning clockwise and the other counter clockwise because it had difficulties in single engine handling. Like the venerable P-38 Lightning.
