Imperial or Metric?

I think it's something we can't avoid, whether we use imperial or metric units. Americans here would vote imperial and other people will vote metric (I personally have no idea how long is an inch). I wonder if there is a system which can accommondate both? Say 2 inch <-> 5 cm and on rulesets produce a set of imperial units and another set of metric units, or use brackets or different font to indicate the corresponding units of measure. Say:

Movement distance 50 (20) would mean 50 cm or 20 inch, which are close enough as not to affect general gameplay

I played Warhammer games for so long that inches finally got hold in my metric brain. But I still translate inches to metric for more involved transformations.

The thing is, measurement unit is connected to ranges and it makes entire game easily scalable - if you want you can play it with 1cm as the measurement unit and do battles on your desk (though models and bases might need to get smaller for that ).

Yea that's where the problem lies because your base size doesn't scale...

We don't need nor metric nor inches, if we have our own units. So if someone want to convert it to metric or to inches he can do it. Imagine a guy who wants to play with tiny ships, so he print our game in smaller size and wants to play with 1 move = 1 cm, that's okay. He can do it.

ohhhh hmmm - thats a very interesting concept. It makes it much more open! so if someone want to say play at REALLY small scales they could print everything (models included) at say 25%

Just something that may be a hindrance on the 3D models, designers tend to cram as much detail as possible into the intended size for the model (I know I do) making down-scaled building a tad difficult...

But we're going to give simplified versions for not modelling savvy too, so it should be all right

indeed you are correct but the models will not be overly complex. Most of their detail will be in the textures.
