Thud !

As a lifetime Terry Pratchett fan I was wondering whether any of you had ever considered his book "Thud" which includes the game of the same name. I think the rules could maybe do with a little "bending" to make it more combative, but the openings for creativity are endless ! Even the playing board could, and should, be a work of art.
In fact, thinking about it his books are a goldmine for modellers.

I'm sure there is/was a commercial version of Thud! I seem to remember a box in my local bookshop sometime.

Google gives a lot of hits. Including this: Thud | Discworld Emporium
There are also do it yourself hits, rules and so forth. Seems to be no lack of attention.

As for the University - prices have gotten out of hand since I bought mine three years ago for under 9 US dollars. I throughly enjoyed tearing up the book and building the model(s).
