3D Printing Anyone ?

Apparently 3D printing is set to be affordable for everyone. Should lend itself to all forms of modelling - and £300 for a 3D printer would definitely interest me ...

I done a lot of 3D printing. Affordability goes.... well, that depended on how deep is one wallet. LOL.

That's my 3D print 1/6 HMMWV prototype I did about couple years ago.

I'm into the first of 6 terms of a Mechanical Engineering program here at NSCC. I will have access to over one million dollars worth of 3D scanning/printing, milling and heat treatment equipment.

The problem is that I don't know where to start. =)

I'd like to design my own Vacuum Form machine.

I wasted about a year and a half on W.O.W. But I did get these two 3D prints as Christmas gifts last year and the year before. The plastic prints are in color. The color is part of the printing process. I would consider these on par with a fine mohogny aircraft model. As nice as they are I would have a lot more feeling for them if I had made them my self. Paper would be excellent for the job. I have seen some fine aftermarket parts for models made on 3d printers. Only limits are imagination and wallet stuffing.

Did someone say vacuum-form?

Stev0, here is a link to one of the best self-made tables I've ever seen. It isn't all that complex, it's inexpensive, and works very well.

Vacuum Forming Table

I have a 3DS model that I would really love to have 3D printed, but I have no idea where to even go to find out how to get it done...

Good starting point for a large home built is that air hockey table under the boxes in the storage room. Had to build one at work years ago. We started with a 4'X8' sheet of replacement deck. We pulled parts used in advertising. It was already drilled with a slick laminate top. Set back would be that the big sheet with shipping cost more than ten or twelve good air tables found in toy stores. I never made the vacuum mold with Matchboxe's 1:24th P-54 Mustang for a set of clear skins. An larger improved version of the Monogram Phantom Mustang.

Awesome.

I will be given a list of projects to work on next year in my final year.

I wish for either a robotics or renewable energy project.

I got ref for you lancer525.

They printed my humvee. I shopped around, and their price are better. They use mostly Z printers in house. They do other plastic and resin printing too, they do have to send them out for that. But their price still better. Well, at least back then. Not sure about now. I always pick up my prints in person, so I got to talk to them face to face and asks Q's. Good people, I really like them.

One of the brother set up new shop here. The tire in their Portfolio is from my humvee. They printed off my .stl file.
