Laser printer question

Hi all,

I just got a new laser printer, but when I print a model, and fold the paper, all of the ink comes off the folded area. Do any of you know how to fix this, besides painting it?

Does it crack and flake off or just rub off ? See if there is a setting that can be adjusted for using thick paper, I know there is on photocopiers. This will slow the feed down as it goes through the fusing (hot) section which will help bond the toner better to the paper. Also, don't use inkjet paper in a laser printer, the toner doesn't bond as well to it.

People don't use Laser Printer for paper modeling because of these issues. The fix is getting an inkjet printer, get one that uses pigment ink, not dye base, the colors don't run and are better protected from U,V, rays. Most Epsons use pigment Ink.

if you want to keep using the laser printer for models.

do the following

after the prints have cooled down, spray them with a clear varnish, this will seal the toner and the paper, and it will allow you to fold creases with little to no cracking.

it has been discussed a couple of times, you can do a search for it here on the site.

Maybe you could post your results. I couldn't find anything searching with the terms "varnish laser printers", maybe there's another combo of words. It would be nice to know which varnish works best.. The clear varnish idea sounds great!! It's the first time I've heard it and I will be passing that info along. Thanks Rickstef! With laser printers coming down in price, they are becoming more affordable, though I have no idea about the price ratio between toner vs. ink. Would be nice to know though. They sure do make nice prints though.
