Printing proper color and detail...?
Having trouble with this new HP Photosmart Plus B209a printer of mine. I set it up on my Linux PC and it prints great, nice and sharp, good detail etc. However, the colors are a bit off in the blues and greens. They're too vibrantly green. So I tried it on my Windows PC, the colors are perfect, but the finest lines aren't printing as well as on the Linux PC. I'm so confused. Both times, I'm just using the "high quality" set to 600dpi.
Here's an example: On the left is the Linux printout - the green is too dark, the blues too bright, and the logo background far too teal. On the right is the Windows printout - the color is just right - matches the screen - but the lines are too faint, even missing in some sections: Linux: Windows: Any suggestions on how I could either correct the color in Linux, or enhance the detail from Windows? I even tried the "maximum DPI setting" - an optimized 4800x1200dpi print, but it didn't work.

Did you install the HP Linux Imaging and Printing (hplip) package? It includes
drivers for specific HP hardware which could result in better color matching. It also "unlocks" specific features - e.g., it adds many options to Adobe Reader's print dialog. |

No I just let it do its own thing. I plugged in the USB cable, and 30 seconds later, I could print to it. I love Ubuntu for this reason, but I will dig into the full HP driver. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes.
Edit: Looks like HPLIP is already installed on my system according to the Ubuntu Software Center - must have been part of the auto-install. But, I did find HP's website with a Linux drivers/software section so we'll see if its anything beyond the HPLIP. Edit 2: Nope, just forwarded me to http://hplipopensource.com/

You might want to try to set the color profile for it in Ubuntu. Ther are quite a few color profiles, so try each one until you are satisfied with the color output - it'll waste some ink though.
