New OEM Epson CIS printer

Epson has released an OEM CIS ink jet printer. You no longer have to buy an aftermarket attachment to use tank inks.
I don't know about the printers output quality, or long term cost to operate; I have only seen it on a couple of sites for sale. One user said it was a tad slow compared to cartridge printer, another said output was a bit blueish. It will be interesting to see what is said about it when more reviews get posted.

According to the manufacturer's web page a 70ml bottle of ink will cost $5.50!!

A quick read of their product info does not reveal if the printer ink is dye or pigment and does not mention anything about water and light fastness, something they brag about on the specs of their other conventional inkjet printers. That makes me wonder if the new printer inks are not water resistant, a feature that is a big plus with the cartridge inks.

All in all it looks like an interesting product, and one that will lead to a big drop in printer ink prices if other manufacturers want to stay competitive.
And this product does not a good indicator for HPs ink jet printer business. HP quality had declined to the point where their offerings are now pretty lousy, their printers have a curved paper path that does not like heavy card stock, and their business model of cheap printers really expensive ink will be threatened with this Epson innovations.

Hi John,

That is good news that a major player in the market is finally getting on board with the CIS system for the public. While it may be a bit slow, watching the short video did show that the ink is waterproof once the print is finished so our water based glues won't be a problem. Have to do as you say and catch some more reviews once it gets out on the market to see about that blue tint condition you mentioned. Thanks for the heads up on this one.
