New Circle Cutters

Another new tool for cutting out circles are biopsy cutters ( some equipped with plungers ). You can find some diameters on Amazon but most can be purchased form medical supply stores. Since they are considered as disposable and sold mostly in packs makes them bit expensive. If you guys find more locations where they can be purchased individually please let me know.
The main two distributors seems to be Robbins Instruments and EMS.

Always can find new applications for existing tools.

I think I need to purchase a set for parts that have many small holes.

Check with your local doctor, or if you go to one, dermatologist, and ask for their expired ones

Hi Issac, yeah those were the good times. Remember that cutting tool we were looked about at the Hamilton Hobby show. I got one and all I can say is useless.
Punches on the other hand go through paper like a butter except I don't know how long lasting they are going to be.

Hi Rickstef, I'd rather avoid punches discarded by dermatologists or some other health specialist. Who knows what they were used for..... brrr...

expired ones, those are unused, unopened, but can't be used anymore, same with scalpels

Would have to see those in use at that kind of money. Especially since you can get pretty good leather punch sets for around 10-12 dollars at Tandy and not as good (but works well on cardstock) at Michaels at around 5 bucks with their 40% off coupon.
Have been lucky enough to not have to go to any doctor often enough to be comfortable about asking for old tools.

Darius, these look like a great idea. Isaac is right, they would be great for parts with many small holes. I wonder what the largest size would be?

I have two leather punches. Other than structural work that you do not see, these are no good for delicate holes as they do not leave a completely clean hole. It's best to just get a good set of punches at various sizes.


Also, you need to lay the part flat to punch small holes. The leather punch can't do it.


Now comes the cost.......

Isaac, are you thinking about the rotary type punch that has 4 or 5 sizes on a wheel? The type I was talking about are individual punches that you use a mallet with. Between the 2 sets I have they start at 2mm and go up to 8mm in .5mm steps. They may not go down as small as the medical ones but are pretty effective for what I use them for.
