New Printer Availablity and Prices.

I was shopping for a new printer on-line.
Most of the mid range printers on the major manufacturer's web sites are listed as out of stock, and many of the on line stores that still have printers in stock are selling them for 2 to4 times the MSRP.
Arrghhhh...............!
I have not checked to see what is available at local office supply stores.

Brother sells online and constantly offers some good specials and deals.
Current Brother customers have access to more deals,
and I personally have spoken to a Brother rep (on the phone) and gotten even more offers.
For example, in exchange for purchasing a new on-sale printer, I was offered extra sets of Ink.
(this was because I had started out looking for another Brother printer that could use the Ink cartridges I already have...since I had acquired a large backlog of supplies.
But unfortunately every cartridge is pretty much unique to each printer)

Anyway, I have been very happy with Brother and will buy another Brother printer when it comes time.

Sign up online and see what they have.
Brother USA is a bit different than Brother Canada.

I see what you mean about printers being out-of-stock.
I guess a lot of people stuck at home have been printer shopping?!

And, I apologize, it looks like the USA site does not sell online?
Best Buy or Amazon?

The Brother rep told me that it is due to their factory lines being closed down during covid. They were extremely backlogged when they got operating, but they are getting caught up, but it will probably be a couple more months before they are back to normal.

Folks at Best Buy, Office Depot and Staples have said that all of the manufacturers have the same problem

I have been trying to get a new printer since just before Thanksgiving

I run into that trouble since June of past year when my main computer crash with all my archives in there. I immediatly go for buying a new one but all stores were empty. So is like living at those countries in which you may have the money but there are no products for purchase. Regards and waiting for the production lines open. Tony.

I stopped at the Staples in Sedalia, Missouri on my way to the folks. They actually had the best selection of any place I had been to physically. The sales associate listened to my logic of why I wanted to get a Brother Inkvestment printer, and he went through the not-public system and that's how I ended up speaking to the rep. I can't do without a printer for three months possibly, so the salesman went through what they had and what they could get from the warehouse. I didn't want to spend $275 plus on a printer that is going to be replaced, so he pointed out, among others, this Epson. Discontinued, so the demo was available for sell on clearance without manuals, ink, etc. Played Let's Make a Deal and got the ink for half price (XL cartridges), and even adding the two-year service warranty, got it for less than $165. Ugliest, longest printer set-up I have ever gone through, but once I got paper to feed, it prints really nice, and I can stack cardstock in the paper tray and so far it feeds well.

Fingers are crossed, but I am cautiously optimistic

Hypodermic needles are not only useful for refilling cartridges ... They are also very useful for extracting ink from unusable types.

if you've ever handled Ink Cartridges, hypos and refilling ink, you know how messy it can be.
lol I have no interest in getting into that again!

My Ink cartridges cost roughly a dollar or two, per cartridge...
I buy from a couple of ink guys on amazon and ebay, and I always buy bulk lots of all four colours.
I currently have a box of replacement cartridges (about 30 cartridges left) to go through.
So if I had to lose them, its not much money.

At the time I mentioned, I had just purchased a new lot of Ink when my Printer started acting up.
So I was considering a new printer and that prompted the question of reusing the Ink in a different Printer.

I have since fixed software issues (the Printer just need firmware updates and works great again),
but I still have the issue of cardstock feed.
Something has happened to the feed roller system, and the Printer jams thicker cardstocks (anything over 176gsm).
I've tried cleaning things but no luck.

This Brother printer has served me well for 5 years...maybe closer to 10 years now?...and has been very cheap to run.
The Printer was a discontinued model, I bought it from Staples for $49 CAD.

My Brother MFC-J430w lasted 8 years. My business laser printer I had was a Brother also. It lasted 13 years. Reliability and cost per feature is why most folks buy them. I still plan on replacing this one with a Brother
