I like the KISS rule.

I design and cut mostly everything on my Craft Robo, now called Silhouette.
The machine comes with a software program so you can design, print and cut anything you want.
It is pretty easy to design, print and cut a model in about half an hour.

I bought my machine used for $80.00 USD.

I buy the oem blades and carrier sheets- the cost is about 1/3rd. They last just as long as the real deal.

Cuts 110# index cardstock paper.
Also cuts 80# cover easily.
If I use a higher gsm, I send the cutter to do a 2nd cut.

Thumbs up THANKYOU FOR THE INFO ON Printer Cutter

Hello Airdave, its 2018 - thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!
for the "Precise - Pinpointed & Detailed Explanation about the printer cutters - i was soooooo close to buying the cricket*maker*(misspell intended) - and i thought i had it all figured out in my "Grey Cloud" - until i read your post. deep down in my grey cloud I knew something was not right -

I searched n searched all over the net for info on cutter machines for/with paper-modelling and end equation was mostly HOGWASH with FLOWERS, LACE and THEOLOGY.

silly i may sound - i thought all one had to do was just put the printed sheet in the and the machine went "ninja" on it.

well unless if i go the "kooklik route" then its OK -but i wont be doing that in a thousand years - if its for a simple personal paper-modeler like me THEN THE CRICKET and OR the CHILLOUT machines-not worth !

Ok its back to stone-age - xacto #5

well ...just like they made a Photocopier hope they make a Photocutter - whereby you just put the printed sheet IN and get the cut parts coming OUT. (ya i can hear Aerosmith's in the background -Dream On-Dream on )

But....thank you once again Airdave !!!

I am definitely not saying no to a small hobby cutter.
I know that those who use them in paper modeling, seem to be having some success with them.

But, I have argued that the tedium and frustration of cutting out a lot of repetitive parts
is still part of the hobby, and part of the process.
The more elements of the paper crafting hobby that are removed,
the more you lose (of the paper crafting hobby).

So, I can't justify the price and the work for myself.

But, I recently added a section for "cutfiles" on my forum.
One of our members is using the Silhouette cutter with my Koolwheelz models and wants to share the cut files he is producing..

Its a lot of work to create a single page cut file...
maybe too much for a simple model like my Koolwheelz?
And just how many models will you build?
How many uses do you get out of that cut file?
This is why he wants to get more out of the work by sharing the files with our other members.

I think thats great.
And I think mechanical cutting would really benefit someone with limitations,
like limited movement, arthritis, etc
or someone who is real crap with a hand knife! lol

For me the cutting out stage is where I do much of my "re-engineering" to add missing tabs or convert overlap joiners to butt type. I have found that downsizing large kits to 1:100 satisfies my need to invent a better mousetrap. Now if I was a treadhead I can see myself setting up one of those to cut out treads while I went to the therapist to help me find out what was wrong with me.

Then, my fellow Pm'er. You need this !

The Shadow Hobby ThinnerLine Circle Cutter !

Can do down to .05mm circle, and can cut concentric circles as well.
Has a circle center locator that works VERY well.

hello ricomon - thx for the tip - but this T.C.C thing "Cannot Cut" card stock - its only for Fine / very thin paper - If someone can do a video and PROVE TO to me "visually" that this T.C.C thing cuts card stock and like (fairly thick card) - then I'll buy - and Promote it to ALL others to buy it.

so far all the vids on the int-net - about this T.C.C all Depict guys cutting cellophane thickness paper -( AKA - paper thinner than Scotchtape )

when I emailed a certain seller / distributor for this item -about its cutting power - they were like - just - "ah yes yes yes its possible" - coz they wanted to make a sale - but my "13th Sense" told me they were b/s...ing

so till then in my dictionary this thing is a no-no - UNTIL someone make a video of it cutting "DIFFERENT TYPES" of card-stock and proves me wrong

I've ordered one with the set of blades recommended for thicker paper, another member of this forum has already posted a lengthy review and mentioned it can cut thicker card with a few passes...

I'll be sure to try it out as soon as it arrives.
