How To: Upload a file to Downloads Section

This tutorial will show how to upload a file for download to the membership using the NEW interface.

The following screenshots explain how to upload a file to the downloads section of the forum, as long as you have the author's permission to host the file here.

In this example, we will be using Di-3's freebie release of the Ilyushin IL-4 model as a sample of how to upload.

(Hover over the thumbnails for larger screenshots or click the following link for the gallery of screenshots for even larger images; http://www.papermodelers.com/gallery...y.php?cat=1050)

Hello Oppala.

If you are not seeing the "Upload File" link when in a category, then you don't have enough posts to upload to the downloads section. If I remember correctly, the downloads is also restricted until you reach 10 posts.

Not to worry, you'll be there soon enough.

Although you have been a member here since January 2009, head on over here to introduce yourself: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/welcome-desk/

Is it possible to change the "NO IMAGE" symbol.
It is very off-putting and a bit scary.

It's open to interpretation:
  • no image is associated (yet) with this file
  • images aren't allowed here (change the black frame to red and you'll get the classic "forbidden" traffic sign)

Frankly I'd complain more about the downscale which changes the aspect ratio, forcing the thumbnails to be square - the Corsair in your example becomes SD.

I quote
English: The no symbol (also known as a prohibition sign, no sign, circle-backslash symbol, nay, interdictory circle, or universal no) is a circle with a*diagonal*line through it (running from top left to bottom right), surrounding a pictogram used to indicate something is not permitted

File exceeds width allowance?

I'd like to upload a jpeg file which is less than 3mb. The file is an architectural model on 8.5 X 11 (the photo size is 8X10.5).

When I attempt to upload the file, I get an error message saying the file exceeds maximum width.

I'm not sure what "maximum width" refers to. Please explain.

Larry

I've addressed this issue in a new post

No real need to start a new post, I was about to reply to this one, and say the exact same as I did here

Rick
