I have lots of models that I would like to share but I want to restrict access to forum members only.
How do I do that?

I think that's gonna be hard. Only forum members can download files (I think), but a member could easily upload the file to other sites or forums. However, I am not an admin, so I might be wrong.

Try locking it with a password and PM the password to members who want it.

when you say "lot of models that I would like to share" are you saying
you have models that you have designed and want to distribute (but only with forum members)?

You could store files at a file hosting site like mediafire (thats what I use).
Then you can set those files to private, not public access.
(Although, even public access is hard to find if you don't know where to look).

You can share the files by way of member's only access.
Mediafire has a thing with private files only being accessed by your "followers".
Its up to you how you share the access codes or accept followers.

A basic mediafire account is completely free, although its limited to only 50gb of storage.
LOL...thats about 8 billion model files!!!!!!!!! LOL
Just one idea.

By the way...if you are talking about sharing your file/folder of digital models
which you have downloaded and collected from the internet,
then NO, you cannot share these in this way...or any way.
You cannot share models that you do not own unless you have written or verbal permission
from the original author and/or distributor if those models.

Yes, I have models that I have designed and want to distribute but only with forum members.

What I am really calling for is a "Members only file sharing area" which only appears if you log on.

I thought the Download area here is only accessable by registered members of the forum?
...admin?

But, its easy enough to sign up to get access.
Thats what thousands of members have already done.
Here, and on my own forum too.
They sign up just for the access to special areas,
with no intention of taking part in other forum activities.

So any models posted here are exclusive to members of this forum,
but theres no restrcitions to who can become a member here or how they use the forum.

If you really want to restrict access to certain members, you will need to host the files offsite.
And then provide exclusive access to a specific group.

You can also do this on facebook...create a group that has private access.
In other words, people have to apply for membership in that group.
Once accepted, they get access to the group page.
You can then post links to files, or direct downloads within the group page.

You have to be aware of that once a model has been released (either inside the forum or outside of it) you can't control its whereabouts any longer. So there is no way to prevent it from being uploaded to other sites. You could protect your archive with a password and give it only to people you know and trust.

If you mean by control, that anybody can build it and make improvements, I hope they do. I also hope that they tell me about what they have done.

Who needs a beta builder?

I was referring to the limited access you wish to guarantee. Once you release a model you are unable to control if it is uploaded to other hosting sites or distributed another way. It may even show up for sale on ebay.

I don't mind my models being available to all, I just feel that members should have some advantages over guests in gaining acess to files posted.
