That's the way I thought it worked.
If I opened an unread thread I've noticed the post count drop by several numbers
So 4 posts in 3 threads meant 2 people had posted in one of them

I just responded to an email notification...there were at least two new posts in a thread I'm watching.
but the "unread Post" count showed only "1 Unread Post" and a link to that same thread.

So, I am still thinking it doesn't work that way.
In the same way you don't get multiple emails for every new post in a thread.
You just get one notification of recent activity (since your last time opening that thread)

Heres a good example....just looked and saw "2 Unread Posts"
One of those is in the thread "STAR TREK TOS 50th anniversary set"

But there are are 4 new posts in this thread since last night...since I looked at this thread yesterday.

By your logic, since I viewed this thread only once, when it was started, with no replies,
the Unread Post count should now be "5" (including that other thread/new post).

But it only registers as "one new post" for me to look at (meaning "this thread has at least one new post in it since the last time you visited").

There is nothing wrong with the software.

I checked it twice at different times and mine planned out.
----------------------------

What is interesting Dave is that you appear to be getting the variations you have mentioned

If the actual number of posts is up from the post count (PC) then there could have been activity since you saw the original PC.

If however the posts are down, I can think of no logical explanation.

One thing to remember though is that the system is not real time. There will be a slight time lag always in relation to the PC updating - and this probably is the crux of the matter if you find variances.

If you are seeing new posts notifications for every single new post within a thread
then you are the one with the glitch?

I logged on to a new thread last night...saw the original post, but there were no replies.
This morning there are four reply posts (that I have not seen).
But the "unread post" count is 2....referring to the 2 threads showing with new posts.

This actually indicates to "threads with new unread posts"

Each new post that you have not seen are not counted.
The first new post in any thread will register a "new post" count, but thats all.

The same rule applies to email notifications.
You get a notice of a new post (in a subscribed thread) but no subsequent posts.
In fact it states in the email "there may be more posts...but you will not receive notification of those..."

I always used to get "7 New Posts"
and that would relate to seven threads with at least one new post.
There were often many new posts in a thread, but I never saw more "new posts" than related threads.

Recently, it changed (for me)

Ok. Noted.

The post count will always be equal to or higher then the threads.

But remember what I said about it not being a real time system. This means the update of the count to the post may only take place at fairly "long" intervals relatively speaking.
