Copy multipage thread

I know how to copy/print a thread page. What I would like to know is if there is some way to copy a multipage thread other than a single page at a time?

I would like to be able to copy some multipage threads and keep them on my PC. For many reasons a number of threads after time no longer display the photos that were originally included. Because of that I would like to be able to keep certain threads, including the associated photos, on my machine for future reference. However, doing multipage threads one page at time can become cumbersome.

Sincere thanks for having such a great web site.

Paul

If you have a pdf writer on your computer, you should be able to go to File/Print, then choose your pdf writer as the printer, and it will print the page to pdf, at least it worked on my old Win 7 with CutePDF Writer.

Hope that helps

I haven't found a method, yet, that will take a multi page thread and allow you to save it as one whole document.

Applying this tip to your viewing of the forum, and threads might make the task of saving/virtual printing the pages less of a hassle >> HOWTO: Increase the number of posts per thread

I doubt that you would want save all of Bruno's A Plane each non working day thread, around 310 pages at 40 posts per page, but a smaller thread might just be the option you want.

I just did page 229 of Dave's KoolWheelz thread with the method I described. If you can deal with one thread page per document and not the whole thread

Not sure if this is remotely related to what you asking...
but, heres something you can try...

depending on the browser you are using,
you can save an entire web page for future use (without needing the internets to view it).

Right click on a web page to reveal the available actions menu.

If you are dealing with a multipage thread, you can try to reduce the number of pages in the thread by doing this:
Go to the User CP page (link is at the top left of any forum page).
Then click Edit Options in the left pane.
Now look down for Thread Display Options.
Change Number of posts to Show Per Page to the maximum allowed.
Now, go back to the web page you want to save.

When you right click the web page and see the options menu,
look for "save webpage" or "save as" and choose entire web page.

Save to a known location...then go look at what you saved.
It will be one or two folders including a web link and a folder full of page items.
You'll see images, icons, little bits of the webpage, text, etc

Keep the two together. (the web link and the folder of webpage items)
If you double click the web link, it will use your browser to build and recreate the webpage.
You do not need be connected to the internet.
Everything you need to rebuild the webpage, is in the folder.

But, be warned...if images are thumbnail links, only the small thumbnails will be saved...the full size linked images will not.
because they are not actually on the web page you are saving.
If you saved one of my threads, the full size images are posted in the thread
and you would save those too.
But not everyone does that.
Only way to fix that, is to open each linked image and save the full size image, to the web page folder (along with the thumbnails).

I have changed the number of posts per page to 40, the max. It will decrease the number of pages I will have to print/save on my PC.

I understand the complexity of trying to get the pictures with the posts and actually that is what prompted this discussion. I should have done this when I first read the instructions in a thread about how to modify your circle cutter in order to cut smaller circles. When I went back to the thread the pictires were no longer available. I'd rather not repeat that experience in the future.

Funny how we always just assume things will be there later. Lesson learned, if you ever think you might need the information you are viewing, find a way to save it somewhere where you can access it later.

I'm in a better place than I was before asking this question. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Paul

The only reason images are not available is because:
a. the Photobucket curse (P-bucket blocking image links unless you pay them)
b. the image was deliberately removed, the link changed, etc (this is a very rare occurence)
c. really old thread where the original images are no longer where they were.

So, why is this happening to you?
Why are images disappearing for you?
Makes me question if you aren't doing something right?
Maybe, if you pointed us to a specific thread where you can't see the images?
Bomarcs "modify your circle cutter" thread still shows all its images fine (except maybe that very first photobucket image).

...
I should clarify...that when viewing a saved webpage on your computer
the thumbnail images and links will still work if:
you are connected to the internet and the original images are still there (at their source locations).

But once you view the webpage, on your computer, using a webbrowser...but not connected to the internet,
any weblinks, weblinked images, etc will not be able to work.

...
Have you installed the Photobucket fix (in all your browsers)?
Its a simple add-on that all should have to get around the photobucket blackmail clause.
Mozilla Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...otobucket-fix/
Google Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...alioapbifiaedg
Or, just search your browser's add-on(extensions) list.

You left out the recent Facebook issue. Seems like some FB images disappear after a week or two. Haven't seen anything about that being resolved. I assume it is still going on

So is it safe to assume that all the pictures uploaded to the site by the forum software will always be available?

Until such time as the servers that this forum uses are erased/disconnected
the images will be there.

Servers also fail...harddrives crash...data is lost.
But a site like this has backups...some, if not all data, can usually be recovered and replaced.
