FGMM US Navy Jenny

Well this contest looks like just too much fun to bypass. I have done very little modeling since moving from Santa Fe last October. ... And by very little I mean ZERO! Maybe this is what I need to get the juices flowing again so I can finally finish Will's FG2 Corsair.

This also a bit of a self indulgent build since this model is the one-and-only repaint that I have ever done. It's a one page version of the original which was two pages for the regular and four pages for the large. I have no idea what scale it is. I'll probably just measure it when done.

My only mods will be to add enough rigging to make it interesting.....this thing is a wirepalooza if you want it to be. And I'll put clear windscreens in maybe.. or not. The point for me at least will be to re-discover the fun in making models.

Here's a peak at the printed sheet:

That's beautiful! Please- submit it to Chip and see if he'll add it to the Jenny's folder. I'd love to build a USN Jenny. As a Navy Brat, I'll pick USN everytime, if I have a choice!

Sweet! I love the between wars era color scheme. I see it states that your recolor is based on a Jenny at the Olde Rhinebeck Aerodrome. I live within 20 or 30 miles of the Aerodrome, but haven't visited it in probably 30 years. I'm going to have to make a point to get up there this year for sure.

Moving at glacial speed on this one. I did manage to complete one wing. I used the "sticks for ribs" method on this one to add some depth to the wing. It also makes for a very stiff and well formed airfoil. Still need to add some edge coloring here. Hope to get at least the other wing done this week.

As for the wires, I will probably do just enough of them for the model to look convincing,.... to me at least.

Wing looks fine, Curt.
Can you explain "sticks for ribs" method?

This was a topic in the forum a few months ago. Perhaps the originator of this technique will see that I have copied it and post a link to the original thread. I did a quick search and did not find it though. I will make a point of taking a pic or two of the lower wings' development. For now let's just say that thin bamboo strips are laid out as if they are wing ribs. Then a piece of card stock is laid over them so that the upper wing surface can be pressed down between the "ribs". That gives the wing some depth as well as a great deal of strength.

Hope this helps.
