Thanks, guys, I appreciate the kind words.
A little more progress; Here's the main wheel wells drawn out;:o I cut and shaped some styrofoam for the wings, but I didn't get it nearly as well formed as I should have. The wells glued in place; The exhaust pipes aren't exactly correct. The P-39 had curving funnel-shaped pipes, but I still think these are an improvement over the FG ones; The extended spinner. I gave it a coat of paint to disguise the sloppy redraw I did on it! After the main wings went on, the main gear/doors when on. These gear were essentially scratchbuilt. (I'll get a better shot tomorrow!) The canopy has been a real challenge. It's not necessarily a perfect fit in the first place and my mods may have pushed the fuselage out at the back a bit??? I wanted to do more than the flat props glued to the back of the spinner, so I've enlarged them slightly to allow for giving them a little dimension. I had to repaint them to hide the change. I'm hoping to finish this one up at the next sitting. Just not sure when that will be. Chris |

Attached fuel tank. This is a simplified version of the real thing, but looks close enough for me.
Better shot of the main gear. Had some problems with one of these loosening up, but all better now:o. Finished up now and will post final photos shortly. Chris |

Thanks, Don. Sometimes I feel like I'm just getting worse and worse! But I am happy the way this one came out;
If anyone is interested, here's the mods I made to the kit; -Clear, heat-formed canopy -Full interior (hand drawn!:o:o:o:o) -New exhaust pipes and fuselage recess -Extended spinner/ new 37mm gun barrel -Nose machine gun wells and barrels -New landing gear and wheels -Wheel wells -Separate flight surfaces -Pitot tube -intake filter (can't really see it in the photos, though) -belly fuel tank and mount -repositioned and formed props -wing machine gun pods -open wing intake ports -antenna wire -additional rivets! There are a couple of blunders of mine still showing (no, I'm not going to point them out!), but overall I like this one. And this P-39 is the last of the five US planes I promised myself to make so that the US is represented up on the Wall of Shame! I'm giving myself a pat on the back!:D:D:D:D Chris PS. The main gear are a bit splayed in these photos; doing much better now! |

Winner! ...oh wait, that's a bit premature... :o
Either way, this is an absolutely stunning build! All your mods kept perfectly with the style and feel of FG, yet added detail and accuracy. Much more interesting than photorealism in my opinion. Definitely a contender. Thanks for sharing!
