Fgmm vietnam, l-19 bird dog

This will be the second build of the L-19, The first one was the Civil Air Patrol version (Below) built for the local CAP. I decided since I had an all expense paid vacation to Nam, the Vietnam version would be a good choice.

I will install all clear window and windshield as well as the overhead cockpit windows. Scratch build cockpit interior. Reinforce landing gear and custom wooden wheels. Balsa to reinforce the upper wing support and cockpit hood.

Hey Alcides, The scale is 1:30. I can't use the wing center section because it blocks the overhead windows. Also the strip that holds the fuselage across the top of the fuselage has to be cut away. Any way I put 1/16" square bulsa to support the top of the side windows as well as the windshield. I add two 1/16" front and back wing spars sticking out into the wings about 3" that get glued to the bottom of the wings. I also put simulated ribs at the end of the wings to hide the internal wing roots.
Clear as mud...Right:D

Anyway it will look simular to this I did the L-4 the same way

OK:D Got every thing ready to start assembly Take a close look at the fuselage section. This is a little trick, I accidently discovered by trying to save card stock. It just turns out that with these L-19 models you can print on both sides and they almost line up:D:D. The main thing it gets rid of all the white card stock on the inside.

Got the modification done on the fuselage so I can install the wings and the overhead windows.:D This is the best I've come up with in order to provide for overhead windows on this type of model. Before continuing with assembly I have to finish the interior cockpit, controls, instrument panel and main landing gear. The clear windows on the side of the fuselage are on and are clear plastic sheets, glued and taped on. The top windows will be clear tape.

Hey Ryan, Thanks for the youtube site. As with lots of these Fiddlers Green models, it's more than a model It's a part of history. So it's more than just building a model and cutting and glueing paper. So, at least for me, it's more than just a L-19 Bird Dog from Vietnam, It's a part of a rich history and touched peoples lives, and in this case, changed peoples lives in a positive way.
