ULCC Batillus

Here is my start on Batillus, scale is TBD (1/200 is winning at the moment!! :o ) but no matter what this kit will be a monster!

The real Batillus was built in 1976 in France for Shell oil. She was one of a fleet of Ultra-Large Crude Carriers built in the 70s. When Crude prices fell dramatically, she and most of the dozens of other ULCCs built around the same time ended up in the breakers yards because they were simply uneconomical to operate. The few that survived were mostly broken up between 1999 and 2004. A few remain, mostly as Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) barges. Batillus served for just nine years, before being broken up in 1985.

LOA: 1359' (414.2 m)
Beam: 206' 8" (63 m)
Draught: 94' (28.5 m)
GRT: 275,276

Design work has just begun on Batillus (possibly the other members of the class too) and she is at this point just a bare hull. Her stern needs to be reworked a bit, my plans are pretty basic but fortunately there is a large supply of hi-res images of her and her sisters online. Comments and questions welcome!

Re: ULCC Batillus

Thanks Chris, meant to post that here too.

Yes, she is awesome ship and thanks, I am having fun with this one! ;D I might give barry's Tarawa a run for it's money in terms of parts! There will be 252 individual supports for the main deck walkway alone!

Re: ULCC Batillus

im just afraid by doing that you end up with a bunch of seams on the hull which at a smaller size might not look so well.

Re: ULCC Batillus

Yeah, I thought about that too... I suppose it kinda depends on how the hull plates fit together in the larger size, but I suck at ships anyhow, cant do the darn hulls

Re: ULCC Batillus

If you do after Tarawa I would suggest you number them as you go.

I shall watch with interest

Just wondering whether this one went any further, seems to have been a while since anything was posted to this thread.

Cheers!
