Really nice work, Avery...I am convinced there is NOTHING you can't design!
Enjoying this project immensely...thanks for sharing your work with all of us! Cheers! Jim |

Looking good. Fun to follow . Nice to see it has dynamic brakes.

Looking good. May I offer some advice? On our Dutch 1/87th model, many of the doors and other surface details are not just drawn on the body, but also added as separate parts to be glued onto the body. This gives a livelier impression than just a smooth surface. Builders might experiment with thinner paper for thes parts.
We often group the smallest parts on a separate sheet, so that can be printed on thinner paper as well. We normally use 160 grams (ca. 60 lbs), and 80 to 100 for the small parts. |

Thank you, Jim! However, I have yet to successfully finish an aircraft design.
Yes, the trucks looked rather naked without them didn't they? Diderick, I may offer that as an option, however looking at the photos of the locomotive the doors are quite flush. It would add "interest" but I'm rather obsessed with literal accuracy. That's just one of my quirks. Unfolding is finished and I've started to export and color the parts. Does anyone know where I might find information on the exact colors used in the ATSF paint scheme? I have approximations right now but it's always hard to match the colors in photos accurately due to variables such as lighting, the age of the photo, etc. |

I'm stretching it here, but my cousin used to be a painter who worked in a repair shop that worked on ATSF engines and cars. He might remember what the colors were. I imagine I'll probably only be able to get paint codes which you would have to look up, but maybe ...
Don't be holding your breath on this one |

Okay, I think this is the statement
rixtoys Member Looking good. Fun to follow . Nice to see it has dynamic brakes. And this is the response APA-168 Member Yes, the trucks looked rather naked without them didn't they? The dynamic brakes are not on the trucks, it is the resistor grid under fan bulge more or less centered on long hood.

Aha! finally found my GP9 Operating Manual. Was hoping it had a stand alone photo of a truck showing traction motors and all but it only has a line drawing perspective illustration of an un-mounted motor http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...manual0001.jpg

Ah, my mistake, as you can guess I know almost nothing about locomotives. You'll just have to work with me while I get the basics down. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.
Vermin_King, that'd be fantastic, thanks for the effort! |

avery,.. could you "eyedrop" select the color from a digital image/schematic?,.. I think if you have the actual paint code it may look different as rgb or cymk versus that spot color? if it was professionally printed it could be more accurate i suppose,.. but with everyone having a different printer etc,.. i think you could get away with a close enough approach
