The frigates of 1812 seem like the obvious choice, but I'm much more fascinated by the actions on the inland waters. That's why I chose to focus on the Lake Erie squadrons for the anniversary (see the attachment). The model labelled "Cumberland" was actually based on the builder's draught for an unnamed 64, dated 1761. However, since I was running a game at a convention based on the British vs French actions in the Indian Ocean in 1757, I needed a "Cumberland" (since that was Vice Admiral Pocock's flagship) and this model was the closest thing I had ready at the time. A slightly earlier 70-gun third rate would probably have more closely resembled the rebuilt Cumberland, but I don't have one yet. If you're interested, pictures of the previously mentioned game are here: My Game - a set on Flickr Jeff |

Great I also built one of the lake model (the free one) and have bought two others which will be built in the coming weeks. I was eagerly expecting this series based on your galleries of beta builds.
Thanks for making the first one free |

This kinda reminds me of the time I tried to amke a Age of Sail conversion of Total Annihilation...
And I know, the textures are bad. But the model itself was done 'right'. Even had several scripts running with the units that weakened them the longer they were away from a supply ship! Even made a little submarine (would have been a Super Weapon!), based on the Civil War one.

Jeffrey,
I have made a post about the new ship and your site on a french paper modeler site: • Afficher le sujet - un bateau de ligne 64 canons au 1/900e I linked to the picture on your site so it shows in the forum. Hope you don't mind, if you do, I'll remove it. |

Nice!
So, you used the rules for Wooden Ships and Iron Men, eh? Thats a great game. I own it but havent played in many, Many years. I remember reading somewhere that the original rules for WS&IM were made for minitures. So now you have brought it full circle. |

That's true. It was originally released as a set of miniatures rules with the title "Ship of the Line" (I still have a copy). After decades of playing naval wargames, I still enjoy a game of "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" once in a while. Its relative simplicity makes it a good game for conventions.
