1/50 Scale Aircraft Carrier Diorama Display with Tug

Thanks Ray.

This is a project I started quite some time ago...

I felt like taking a break from Mustang paint schemes,
so I dug this out of the folders and finished it!

I noticed a number of similar plastic and resin kits.
Why not a paper one?!

Its not a complicated kit, but there are numerous pieces that make up the lifting arms
for the jet blast deflector. Patience is required to cut and assemble all the support parts!

You also get a Deck Tug...with an optional Fire Response Equipment attachment.
Base is 15" x 10"

Well, everything can be scaled down, but I don't know how it would look scaled up. Knowing Dave's work, should not be a problem.

The parts for the Hydraulic lifts are the biggest concern.
My original design was full 3D parts...cylinders, tubes, tubular cast parts, etc
But at 1/50 scale these were microscopic builds beyond my skills.
So I had to simplify the construction.

But I also wanted to retain some quality for larger scale build.

I went with a laminated technique...you build up the main linkages with layers
of flat card.
And even at 1/33 scale, I think it will be very presentable.

Anything large than that, I would recommend some scratch building and
replacement of a few parts.

if anyone uses this Carrier Display base with a jet model,
I would love to see some pics!

and maybe, with permission, use a pic in the store?

I was planning on banging together a 1/50 scale F-14 for this display,
but the build is turning into a bigger project than I had planned.*
So, who knows how long it will be before I get it finished!

(*I bought the pmodel.net Tomcat for $6...nice looking model.
But a lot more complicated to build than I had imagined
and the Instructions are very confusing. I'm having a tough time.)
