P47 Thunderbolt War Eagle / SNAFU new from Dave's Card Creations
Its been a while, but two new P47s are ready to be released...
and first up is War Eagle/SNAFU. This aircraft was suggested to me by a forum member since a replica of SNAFU flies today. After doing a bit of research, I decided to do an early version of the original WW2 Fighter. Flown by Capt. Julius Maxwell, War Eagle was veteran of more than 130 missions. Later piloted by Lt. Severino Calderon, the name SNAFU was added to the aircraft aswell as another 90 missions! The plane was lost late in 1944 when it crashlanded while on lend to another pilot. I decided to go with the mid 1944 appearance, just before Invasion Day striping was added to the aircraft. On a side note, the current flying replica SNAFU features full wrap around D-Day striping, whereas the original War Eagle/SNAFU only showed lower half black and white striping. Sorry....I haven't built this one, so I don't have any model photos to show you. If anyone wants to build this plane and supply us with some images, the model is available (free) for that purpose. To buy a copy of War Eagle/SNAFU, visit www.papermodelshop.com and/or www.ecardmodels.com Direct link to the ecardmodels listing here: 1/33 Republic P-47D Thunderbolt War Eagle SNAFU Paper Model

Dave,
I would love to build and show pictures. How soon would you want them available? It might take me a longer than others so if you want them relatively soon (under a month or 2) then I understand. Darren

Test builds and such should be done right away.
I generally look for immediate start and timely finish. I don't actually need a "test" build for this model, this is just a case of seeing a built product and being able to add photos to the store listing. This model can be easily assembled in one to two weeks. Gerardo did a quickie build (of a similar P47) in not much more than a week. I admit, I get annoyed if someone promises a build and doesn't deliver. But I do understand that life can get in the way and slow down a build. I just ask for an honest commitment up front to do the build. But there are other ways to get a free model. If you are totally broke and really want a model, just ask. As always, if you buy a model, build it (however long), and then send me a set of good quality photos to use in the store I will gladly give you another model, for free. Same goes for a published build report.

No worries,
I am not looking for a "free Model" in this one. I am a fan of the P-47 and like your designs. I was just offering my services based on what you suggested. I have 4 small children and sometimes life gets in the way of getting a timely build in. Perhaps since this is the first time you have interacted with me, I will go on your site or to Ecardmodels and purchase it. Thanks for the reply. Darren

Sorry, wasn't suggesting you were just looking for a free model.
Badly worded. I am appreciative of the fact that you like the Thunderbolt model. Pick one up from the shop...take your time ...and then do a build report here or on my forum or just send me some photos that I can add to the store listings. I will then reward you with another Thunderbolt kit. Or any aircraft kit for that matter.

I just downloaded it from Ecardmodels. I will give it my best effort. I will post photos as I go. Hopefully I can do it justice. A little bigger than I am used to. My last P-47 build was a 1/100 Scale Scissors and Planes version that I scaled up to 1/87.

Don't forget about my build reports here and on my own forum.
And feel free to stop and ask for help if you hit any snags.

Those who purchased this kit (Snafu/War Eagle) can downloaded an updated copy from ecardmodels.
Or, if you bought it from me, just get in touch. One of our members, MichaelS, has pointed out a colour error on Parts 4 - 4B and 4C The optional open Vent Door parts for the side of the fuselage have part of the USAF insignia on them. And for some unknown reason, the blue stripe is not blue...its red. Shown below is the repaired Page 8. So, I have fixed the error...updated the kit...and uploaded a new file to the interweb place. As I said, if your are an ecardmodels customer, you need only log into your account and re-download the model from your account. You'll automatically receive the updated package. But please make sure to delete the older kit, with the error ...we don't want it being redistributed.
