Dutch SAR Lifeboat ¨Carlot¨, 1:87 Scale

A Class of five Lifeboat were built during the Sixties for the K.N.Z.H.R.M., the Northern Sea Rescue Society in the Netherlands.Precursor of the the Class, ¨Prins Hendrik¨ had a 4¨ lesser beam and an open upper brdge. This Lifeboat was paid out of a legacy, by her will Mme C.M.J. Meyer wished the boat to be named after her beloved dog, Carlot. Sisterships were Bernard van Leer, Gebroeders Luden, Johanna Louisa and Suzanna (names not added in the kit). Railings and Net are added in a transparant sheet. A choice out of two different hull colours, either to be built as a full hull or a waterline model. Templates for aerials, davits and flagpole; cardboard for stiffening needed in 0,5 mm and 1 mm thickness. Instructions also in English.

It is a very attractive watercraft, and interesting story, and what looks to be a well-designed model.

It is also perfect for a quay-side feature of an HO-scale (1/87) model railway.

From where can one obtain this model?

Mr Leen Lems has send me some pictures of his terrific built of ¨Carlot¨.

A few remarks By Mr Lems:

Numbering of the parts is not consistent, therefore, take care fitting hull parts, depicted here.

Mr Lems used metal wire, wooden sticks as additional materials. Also the available lasercut detailset was applied.¨Wiring¨ for the aerials can be made out of cotton thread, soaked and waterbased glue applied to become stiff and elastic,
