Murph's Models Dash 8

Here's the test build of Aaron's DHC-8. I know Murph likes orange aircraft, and this one is about as much orange/red as an aircraft can get. Instead of using up all my red ink, I took the file to Office Max/Copy Max and had them print out the sheets using their commercial laser printers. Their cardstock has a natural glossy finish which makes gluing more difficult, but the details are much better than my normal home inkjet printer.

Like all of Murph's Models kits, the parts fit are excellent. The only major detail I needed to change was the tail. The original files have the tail for the Dash 8-400 and this model is of the Dash 8-200. The major difference (besides fuselage length) between the aircraft is that the -400 has a split elevator and a large housing connecting the horizontal stabs to the tail. Since this model is of the military version I added a FLIR ball to the nose. It's just a little too big in the beta build shown here, I will shrink it down before sending the files to Murph. The model also needs a tail strike fairing on the tail. I'll add it to the files before sending them out for distribution.

The wingspan is 47cm (18.5") which gives it a scale of 1/55.

I plan to make a civilian model -200 (probably US Airways colors) and a -400 in the colors of NOK Airlines.

Very nice, been waiting for a kit. Any chance of a SA Express version?

Yes, the tail on the side of the last photo shows the tail for the -400 version. I included it so you can see the differences.

I'm tied up at work right now so I'm not planning on a SA Express version, but Murph's repaint contest is still going on should someone else attempt it.

Very nice work (as always) Knife. You did a great build, and added some very nice details.

Great work. I will be buying this and turning it into the Dash 8-100 CAF version. I might even try to do the CT-142 Gonzo nose version.

A few more photos of the details to assist builders. On the Dash 8, there's only one main landing gear door, hinged on the left side of the engine pod.

I would love to see one in the dark blue of the CAF Air Navigation School.
