Murph's Model Halloween Freeby - Flying Coffin, 1/14
This year's (2016) Halloween freeby from Aaron is the horrifying flying coffin.
I worked out the scale to be 1/14 as the model measures 6 inches long and the real casket or coffin is generally 84 inches in length. The model comes in two ways for presentation, first, just the skeleton wings and the second clothed with tattered skins. The pilot is restless as I have glued him in a roll that moves freely sideways inside the coffin. I have done in pic (14) the flared up flames of the eight cylinders with Photoshop and that really makes our skeletal pilot mad. Amazingly, the skeletal props also spin. The only thing about rigging is that some where the rigs slack because of the weak wing structure. Despite my four-layered 240 gsm paper build, the main wings don't appear to be strong enough. Well, have to live with that as it is not exactly a regular plane and the distortion adds to its look of something from 6 feet under. The final blurred pic shows the 3D flames torches that can be inserted into the exhausts for looks. Print also on the reverse the same graphics, cut out and fold and glue the edges. Add legs treated the same way and you'll have the torches. Happy Halloween to everyone. Papermate |

Dawn Patrol, climbing out of old El Paso. I added carbon fiber rods to the wing spars for strength.

I like this, but...
No link to the model?? Also if on Murphaa's site I get a Cannot Connect error The requested URL could not be retrieved Is that the Library system blocking me, or other?? OK, Not sure why, but linking from another page got me there!!!

Great, beautiful pics. Love the Dawn Patrol idea and execution.
