Card Fleet No.7 American Somers class destroyer USS Somers DD-381
Not in chronological order but we just published our new model. This time it's the American destroyer USS Somers DD-381 as she was when commissioned in June 1938. This model is extremely difficult with very detailed elements but the final effect should satisfy every enthusiast of US Navy. Cost 12GBP.We also have metal barrels set, mast pole with boat bumpers and photo-etched parts with safety nets on very thin (0.1mm) so called "new silver" sheets. Below a front cover and PE parts with General Arrangement assembly drawing. Issues no.4,5,6 should be ready later this year. I hope you will enjoy!

Gotta love a lean and hungry looking DD.
(that my Dad and Granddad were on DDs when they were in the USN has absolutely no connection to my attitude about DDs, right?) Hmm, 3 torpedo mounts: wonder what might have been if the period USN had had sound surface torpedo doctrine and the quality of hardware to make it meaningful.

Definitely on my to build list.
Bath Iron Works (my former employer of 34 years) built the last 3 of the Somers class (there were 5 total). The first 2, Somers and Warrington were built by Federal Shipbuilding in Kearny, NJ. BIW built Sampson, Davis and Jouett. They were big for destroyers of their time and were classed as destroyer leaders with quarters for Squadron Commander and his staff. Randy |
