Roland C.II
Hello All,
A while back I designed a Roland C.II Walfish and it was avaliable through zealot. Now I am no longer participating there I wanted it avaliable here but the file was too big to upload myself. Nothing has kindly offered to host it for me on his site found here, The Dimension of Nothing - FREE PAPER PLANES When I was developing the model is when I actually joined this site but never posted here till just before the meltdown at zealot. One of my test builders then started a thread here but I don't think it went far here. I don't know how many here didn't know the model was completed so for those who never got it you can find it above :D Here's a pic of the final test build I did. G1 |

Just downloaded all of them. Incredible job on those!! What scale are those if I print them out at 100%?

RH,
Well scale was the one thing we never really dialed in. I printed a page at reduce to margins on letter size sheet and it came out to rougly 1/44 scale. It's been so long I can't find the percentages for 1/72 and such. I'll keep digging. Oh man do I have a stack of to builds :P his can take a while :P G1 |

Don't worry about it, I'll figure it out. I'll get a wingspan somewhere. Thanks for the models!! Just an excellent job on a great looking plane!

RH,
Of course as I was bout to give up there they were. 1/72 is the only one I dialed in and it's 33% G1 |

Wow!!! I've always been keen on the Roalnd since first fumbling my way through the Airfix one many many moons ago (I think Richard M. Nixon was still President!!)...these are so cool and so well done - thanks a zillion, Getter!! One would have been neat but six? Yeah, baby!!
I figure the scale to be around 1/48 but will probably expand to a scale better suited for wooden fingers... Last edited by SJPONeill; 06-30-2009 at 04:09 AM. Reason: typo repair |

My fascination with the Walfisch goes back even further than that of the Great O'Neill. Sometime in the 1950s, Walter Musciano published an article in Air Trails or one of its successor magazines for building a control line model of the creature. I never built it, but thought it was a fine and unusual-looking aircraft. Later, I poured over the plans and specs in Thetford and Riding's Aircraft of the 1914-1918 War. Dan (dansls1) had one version (by another designer, I think) under construction at one point with every good hope of completing one in the future.
I had to add these to the collection of models I hope to build someday. We can only be grateful to you, G1, for your willingness to share these models. They are clearly the result of a lot of hard work, as well as some design genius (although there is definitely something fishy about that checkered version). With much thanks! Don |
