IJN Hiei

I just got in my copy of the Maly Modelarz IJN Hiei from Paper Model Shop. In first impression, this model definitely rates a full WOW! Fourteen pages of 3D computer graphic build illustrations and 20 pages of parts. High quality cardstock, decent printing, and scads of itty-bitty detail parts. Even the ship's launches are absolute works of art. This kit is comparable with Halinski. The only "gripes" I can come up with are (1) no weathering and (2) it really should have been printed in 1:200 scale rather than 1:300. However, if that were the case, it wouldn't be selling for only $8.99. A little Photoshop time can correct the scale gripe (and the line width of the original is fine enough that it should enlarge just fine)....and, given enough intestinal fortitude, even the weathering one. Only time will tell regarding how good the parts fit may be, but the first impression is anything this well drawn has got to fit right. If you are at all into ships, this kit is a must have. Send for it before it sells out.

Thanks, Mike. This is a big improvement, and will cut down on the Photoshop time.

Looks good. As soon as the plane bug is over I need to shift to ships. I also need to return to the Katori cruiser. I also need to win a few million bucks. etc etc etc

Thanks for the review. I was wondering about this one. Glad to see MM is still releasing kits and I'm really looking forward to the Me 109g trop release as well!

Maly posted a little part correction on their site:

Mazowiecka Wojewódzka Organizacja Ligi Obrony Kraju

It's a blue box near the middle of the page, titled:
ERRATA DO PANCERNIKA "HIEI"
Links to a zip, and it's element 71, part 4. Apparently it was printed mirror image...

I'm surprised you got it just now, I've had it for a few months.

I need to go get my Me 109 soon...
