Grumman J2F Duck

Grumman J2F Duck

First flew on 2 April 1936. I hope I didn't bit off more then I could chew. This a FG model. More photos to come as the build grows. Wish me luck. wc

Our friend Gixergs is correct.
At the time the "Murphy's War" Movie was made, there were (if my recall is correct) only 2 Grumman J2F Ducks in existence, and one of those was basically a wreck.
The other starred in the movie and to this day exists. At the time of the movie, and for many years afterwards, the J2F Duck was the only flying example of the type in the world, and indeed may still be so.

This will certainly be a most interesting model to watch being built, and the aircraft itself has a most interesting history.

Wad_Cutter, I think you'll make a fine job of this build, because though it looks more intricate, it may in fact be easier in someways than the Cubs were.

I shall be watching with great interest, the J2F Duck being one of the few biplanes of the era that retains my interest.
I wish you every success with your build.

Kind and Respectful Regards Wad_Cutter, Uyraell.

With all this encouragement and positive vibes how can I fail? Thank you for your interests in what I hope is a good model to add to our inventory. This is not to say I won’t be asking for suggestion or ideas for the duck and this will be a slow model to build due to my other interest going on. I will keep you posted as the aircraft come together. It looks like a simple build but then I said the same thing about the Piper Cub. All I can say is I will try to do better and do this great aircraft the justice it deserves. wc

Note: The United States Coast Guard is currently working with North South Polar Recoveries to recover a J2F-4 Duck downed in a storm on a Greenland glacier. Three Coast Guard airmen were lost and presumed still entombed at the site. The Duck is presumed to be under more than 130 ft (40 m) of ice.[8]
