Spooner's Moving Animals automata book

Spooner's Moving Animals or The Zoo Of Tranquility by Paul Spooner
Has seven models plus some spare parts. Goat, Lion, Woodpecker, Wedding Cake, Lawnmower, Horse, Anteater. There is an explanation in a section of the book explaining why the Wedding Cake was included in The Zoo of Tranquility. It has some hidden skeletons that raise the layers of the cake. The Lawnmower has a bunch of Egyptian jackals mowing the lawn. The book has some brief, amusing explanations at the front of the book about automata.

Pages are 24cm (9-3/8") wide x 34cm (13-3/8") tall, printed on both sides. The parts are numbered on the reverse side. You use cocktail sticks as shafts. The instructions show the lengths needed for each shaft used in the making of a model.

Book Cover:

Section of Woodpecker instructions:

Part of Woodpecker parts sheet front:

Part of Woodpecker parts sheet back showing part numbers:

I have assembled the Woodpecker. Easy to make. You can use either a woodpecker head or a jackal head. The pentagonal cam causes the tree trunk to shake which in turn causes the woodpecker head to peck the trunk.

I have this book, along with Spooner's "Museum of the Mind". I haven't built any of the models yet.

I have Museum of the Mind also. Haven't built anything out of it yet. Some interesting concepts in there.
